Surprise Story Week and thoughts
Sep. 19th, 2011 08:58 pmSurprise story week went well. :) I have some more words to write for most of the stories so I'll do that when I'm not so tired. If I tried now it would probably be gobble-de-gook. It should all be done by the end of the week. Any comment will still get another 500 to 1000 words written, so comment if you'd like to see more of any particular story. Remember you can give me random numbers whenever you want if you enjoyed giving me a number and then seeing the story that I wrote for that number. It's on the prompts post - the link on the right hand sidebar of my journal.
Then there's credits.
ysabetwordsmith seemed to think it was a good idea for me to have some form of credit system and I was working on it at the end of last week, but I'm trying to work out if I can afford to have it so that $1 dollar is equal to one credit (or whatever I end up calling it). That makes me 63p (ish) per credit and I'd be happy with that if people thought they would like that sort of system. I'll probably keep up my monetary prices and then have a credit price too, which I think would work out. (To be honest I just thought of that while I was writing this - the reason I write out my thoughts is so I can work things out as I write.) It should make things pretty equal between the two countries and I'll work out how well the system would work with other currencies. At the moment I'm likely to include: typo finding; linking; blogging; commenting; asking a question on the 'Interview the Author page'; prompting; helping with world building; friending my account; and recommending my writing to someone who adds me. There are things that I could add once I have certain pieces of bonus material added and other bits. Would those who don't have the money to spend on my writing like this sort of system? Then once you've got credits you can use them to pay for things and of course you could use a mix of credits and dollars (if I do go for $1 dollar = 1 credit). Any input would be gratefully received.
Oh yes, and the first thing I want to do if I do implement my credits system would be a credit bonus for someone who thinks of a name that would work for them. I don't really want to go with credits because that's what
ellenmillion uses for Torn World and I wouldn't want people to get confused. Stamps is also out because
aldersprig uses that. Also everything will be backdated to the beginning of Surprise Story Week (if that's okay with you
ysabetwordsmith - you're the one who's been doing so much of the typo finding).
I wanted to check with
ysabetwordsmith and
meeks that you'd both received your first stories for your character adoption. If you haven't then let me know.

Tokens or tallies would work. Any relevant adjective + "points" would work. However, bear in mind that if every project tries to find a different name for its noncash earnings, we're going to run out of words awful fast. I think the words are generic enough that they can be used in different places without confusing people.

That's a good idea. With your original system, doing stories per typo, it was going to turn into a hydra: most of the stories have 2 or so typos (though they're getting cleaner, and I don't read all of them with the same depth) which spawns more stories, and so forth. With a point-based system, as long as I'm getting some kind of goodies for my effort, I'll probably keep doing as much typo-hunting as I have time for. I don't want it to pile up in a way that becomes unmanageable for you.

Yes, I got the first Morgan story, thank you. It's good. I just haven't had time to do the feedback yet.
