The last thing I expected when I stepped through the door was to find myself on the world I’d just left behind. It took me moments to realise that wasn’t actually what I’d done, but as soon as I did I knew there was no way back. Slowly, not really wanting to see for myself, I turned to find that there was emptiness where the door would have been on my world, and it was difficult then to keep the tears from falling. Even though I’d heard about the same thing happening to other people I never thought it could possibly happen to me. Of course I only found out I was wrong on the day I’d chosen to leave everything I normally carried with me behind, because I didn’t think I’d be gone for long. Biting hard on my lip I told myself that I’d been stupid not to plan for the possibility… it was a danger that every Walker faced, natural or Council, so I should have been ready for it, no matter how unlikely it had seemed.
